Setting Up Your Rust Server with Final Hosting
Hey there! If you've just picked up a Rust server from us here at Final Hosting, first off — welcome, and thanks! In this guide, I'm going to walk you through getting your Rust server up and running using our Pterodactyl panel. Whether you're going for a simple vanilla setup or diving into modded gameplay with plugins.
Before We Start
Make sure you’ve got:
-
An active Rust server with Final Hosting
-
Your login details for the panel (you’ll find them in the welcome email)
-
A few minutes to go through setup — first launches can take a bit
Step 1: Logging In
Head over to our panel at https://panel.finalhosting.net and log in with the details I sent you. Once you’re in, you’ll see your server on the dashboard.
▶️ Step 2: Starting the Server
Click on your Rust server, then hit the green Start button at the top right.
On first startup, the system will automatically install all the game files. This might take 5–10 minutes, so don’t worry if it seems stuck — just give it a bit.
⚙️ Step 3: Customizing Your Server
Now let’s give your server some personality.
Click the Startup tab in the panel. Here’s where you can change things like the server name, map size, and how many players can join.
Setting | What It Does |
---|---|
SERVER_NAME |
What players will see in the server list |
WORLD_SIZE |
Bigger number = bigger map |
SEED |
Controls the world layout |
MAX_PLAYERS |
Your player cap (like 50 or 100) |
RCON_PASSWORD |
For remote server tools (like RustAdmin) |
After changing these, be sure to restart the server to apply them.
Editing Server Config Files
If you want more control over how your server runs, open the File Manager tab and head to:
In this file, you can add things like your server’s name, a description, and even a header image. Here’s an example you can copy and tweak:
Save your changes, restart the server, and you’re good to go.
Installing Plugins (uMod / Oxide)
Want to add cool features like teleport commands, kits, or clans? You'll want to install uMod (also known as Oxide).
Here’s how to do it:
- When you bought the server you would of had a choice to run a vanilla server or a server with mods select the server with mods option.
Once that’s done, you can upload plugins by:
-
Downloading them from https://umod.org/plugins
-
Uploading them to the
/oxide/plugins
folder in the File Manager -
Restarting the server again
Most plugins just work — no complicated setup needed.
Wiping the Server (Map or Full Wipe)
Rust is usually wiped every couple of weeks to keep things fresh:
For a Map Wipe:
-
Stop your server
-
Go to
/server/my_server_identity/
in the File Manager -
Delete any files that start with
proceduralmap.
For a Full Wipe (includes blueprints):
Delete these files:
-
proceduralmap.*
-
player.blueprints.*
-
storage.db
Then start your server and boom — fresh start.
Common Problems I See (and Fix)
Problem | What I Usually Do |
---|---|
Server not showing up | Wait a bit or connect directly by IP |
Plugins not loading | Double-check Oxide is installed and plugin syntax is clean |
Server stuck on installing | Give it a few mins, then restart |
RCON not working | Check the password and port, then test in RustAdmin |
If something’s still not working — no stress. Just hit me up through support and I’ll take care of it.
